Fast Interuppted

I have recently been informed that many have fallen victim to the temptress that comes in the form of grits, eggs, hashbrowns scattered, covered and smothered. Better yet, chicken wings, shrimp fried rice or smothered pork chops and the like. Yes, the incoming reports have been overwhelming and it's time to extend some support to our brothers and sisters of the struggle. No we don't need to march or picket to fight for the cause, we need to band together to encourage one another. So if you have been having troubles with sticking to the guidelines of omiting one meal thus far, make your issues known so that others can share in your struggle and provide consulation.

  1. Just wanted to give some advise to anyone who is facing difficulties with fasting. I have found that omitting breakfast helps with the fast. In the morning we have so much do - get the kids ready and off to school, along with us getting ready for the day or work, sitting in the rush hour traffic and so on. Once you finally get the chance to take that morning break to relax and breathe your usually breakfast time has gone by.

At night try to take care of as many things that you usually do in the morning.Gives you the opportunity to pray and meditate before starting your day. If you get the kids breakfast at Mcdonalds, BK, etc., look in the refrigerator, cabinets etc., for food so they can have breakfast at home and have a talk with them to help you with the fast. I know my daughter helps me out and tells me "no mommy you can't have that". So the little ones can help in the process. Until you can overlook the temptation, we all have to sacrifice something...I hope this help.

    Thanks

  2. Z, that was GREAT advice! Kids are GREAT at holding you accountable. Having a six year old, I can definitely attest to that. As the days of the full day fast approach, I think I will share my fast with my son and let him know why Mommy isn't eating. I'm sure he'll remind me just like your daughter. What a blessing children are!

I also would like to give a small suggestion. I think that it would help to omit different meals on these days. For example, I started omitting breakfast but then I omitted dinner. My thinking is, this will get my body used to going without food for different periods of the day. And then when you do a skip dinner and then skip breakfast the next day, it will give you a longer stretch of time without food, therefore bracing yourself for the whole day fast!

For today's prayer focus, keeping in step with the spirit can be HARD! Oh my. What to do when you're at work and everyone around you is tempting a spirit that is NOT of the Lord to come out of you!!!??? What to do when you're drunk, not only on wine, but maybe lust, greed, or envy? These spirts can indeed intoxicate you and make you get out of step with the Lord.

I'm thankful for prayer that I can ask the Lord to fill me with His spirit and help me in those weak moments and replace those spirits. When I want to cuss somebody out, just the simple words of "Lord help me" are enough to calm my nerves. When lustful temptations come at me, I can ask for a spirit of love for my brothers and sisters in Christ and totally change my focus. When I feel greedy, I can ask the Lord to remind me of those who have not, and instead, sow a seed that will benefit someone else. And when the spirit of envy comes near me, I can ask the Lord to fill me with thankfulness because I know that I am truly blessed.

(I also found Psalm 37 to be particularly helpful today!!!)

    Peace and blessings to all!!!

  4. When I began the fast I omitted breakfast, but my body told me not to do that anymore, I become really slugish and very unproductive. So now I skip lunch, since I can keep myself busy at work. I also make sure that I don't do a morning snack after breakfast because that will just open the doors to go ahead and eat lunch. I been doing good, not eating. I also been dreaming about food a lot more, is that just me?

  6. I omitted breakfast because it's easier for me because I can sleep right through it! And partnerin' up with others as a support system is a great way to survive this fast.
